Why I'm Running
As Albertans, we are facing the most difficult challenges we have faced in over a generation. From an economic downturn that began years ago, to the impact of a global oil price war, now a global pandemic and economic shutdown.
Our province is being taken for granted. Ignored by a scandal-plagued Liberal government in Ottawa that is out-of-touch with the concerns facing our province and increasingly hostile to the job-creating industries that have given so much to our country.
I know what you’re thinking: why the Senate?
Canada’s Senate has not worked as intended when our country was founded, with problems ranging from inefficiency to scandal to simply not representing the people.
On the other hand, the NDP and their friends want to abolish the Senate and concentrate even more power into the House of Commons, further eroding critical checks and balances. That would make a bad situation worse for Alberta.
Senators can introduce legislation and fight back on bad legislation coming from the House of Commons. It’s an important job, an important responsibility, and it needs someone with the will to fight.
Don’t let them tell you it can’t be done. Don’t take a broken system for granted.
They said it couldn’t be done when Albertans first championed Senate reform decades ago. But Albertans proved the naysayers wrong, starting when Stan Waters took up his seat in the Senate, after being chosen by Albertans.
But there’s more work to do.
Today, the Senators appointed after receiving an elected mandate from Albertans have been outspoken advocates for our province and the people who live and work here. We need more.
Meanwhile, Senators appointed by the Trudeau Liberal government to represent Albertans without consulting Albertans have done a better job representing the government that put them there.
The issues facing our province are too important to ignore. With your support, we can fight for better representation for Alberta in Ottawa.
